Description

1898-S Dime, Multihued MS65+
Underrated San Francisco Issue

1898-S 10C MS65+ PCGS. Multihued toning on both sides of this high-end Gem dime display colors ranging from autumn-gold to sea-green to ocean-blue, with rose accents at the centers. Mint luster shines through the rich patina. The 1898-S dime is famous for its ties to the Philippines, when most the mintage was shipped en masse to the islands. Few coins were preserved domestically, a fact that is unmistakably confirmed by the low population at either service in high Uncirculated grades. This is a wonderfully mark-free coin, with a clean cheek on Liberty and full details throughout both sides from a razor-sharp strike. It is the sole Plus-graded Gem at PCGS. Population: 6 in 65 (1 in 65+), 8 finer (1/17).(Registry values: N2998)
