Description
Exceptional 1898-S Barber Dime, MS66
1898-S 10C MS66 PCGS. Ex: Duckor. A splendid Premium Gem with exceptional eye appeal. All design elements on both sides are extremely sharp. Few examples of this date are found in the MS65 to MS67 grade range. The surfaces on both sides have frosty luster beneath pale champagne color, framed by vivid sky-blue, green, amber, and lighter pale blue toning--a wonderful rainbow presentation. While not in the same rarity class as the 1898-O, this issue is quite elusive in its own right. Unknown quantities of these coins, along with 1899-S and 1900-S, were apparently sent to the Philippines for use in their economy. More recently, quite a number of those coins were returned to the States for collectors, but usually in XF and AU grades. This would certainly explain the availability of coins in those grades, as well as the rarity in Gem condition or better. Population: 4 in 66, 1 finer (4/09).From The Mark Miller Registry Set of Barber Dimes.(Registry values: N4719)
