Description

Toned 1899-O Barber Dime, MS66 NGC

1899-O 10C MS66 NGC. This is a conditionally rare offering from an era in which branch mint silver coinage was not preserved in significant numbers. New Orleans Mint records report that 2.6 million Barber Dimes were delivered in 1899, but the present coin is one of only four MS66 examples known to NGC and PCGS, and there are just two coins certified finer (5/01). Originality is a hallmark of both sides, with intermingled swirls of cobalt-blue, charcoal-gray, and crimson-russet colors that are deeper on the reverse. The underlying surfaces are richly frosted with modest brightness in the fields. A coin for the advanced Dime collector who appreciates originality.
From the Dr. Fred Firestone Collection.
