Description
Interesting 1908-D Barber Dime
Blundered Date, MS67
1908-D 10C MS67 NGC. FS-010.2. This is a very interesting
blundered date. The 9 shows a trace of a 0 in the upper loop, and
the 0 clearly shows the remnants of an 8. Discovered by Bill Fivaz,
the Cherrypickers' Guide postulates that "the date
was possibly punched in one digit too far left, then corrected,
polishing away any remnants of the first 1." Sounds good to us. In
fact, we can't really think of another possible explanation for
this oddity. Superb mint luster and attractively toned, the gray
centers are surrounded by small amounts of reddish patina at the
margins. It is probably not too much of a stretch to say this is
the finest known example of the variety.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23F8, PCGS# 4847, GSID# 4381)
