    Description

    Superb Gem 1911-D Barber Dime

1911-D 10C MS67 PCGS. A frosty Superb Gem specimen with fully lustrous surfaces and pale gold toning around the obverse periphery; the reverse is fully brilliant with only a hint light gold toning along part of the border. All design details are very sharply defined, even in the usual places of weakness. The profile of Liberty is outlined with a raised ridge of metal from the forehead down to the chin. We have seen a similar effect on the lettering of some coins, but usually not on the central motif. The final three years of Barber Dime production at Denver saw mintages in the 11 million coin range each year. It was reported that there was a shortage of dimes in the East in 1911, and thus additional silver was purchased and delivered to the Denver Mint for increased production. The mintage for the year totaled 11,209,000 dimes in Denver. Population: 6 in 67, 0 finer (11/05).
