Description

1912-S Barber Dime, MS65
Champagne-Gold and Lavender Toning

1912-S 10C MS65 PCGS. The obverse remains largely brilliant with faint champagne-gold patina, while a mix of gold and lavender-rose coloration blends over the reverse. Each side showcases luminous mint frost. The strike characteristics are expectedly sharp for the issue, showing slight incompleteness on the lower wreath leaves. Abrasions are minimal for the grade.

Population Data (3/15): PCGS shows 17 MS65 with eight MS66 (one MS66+) and one MS67 finer. NGC reports 38 MS65 and seven finer -- six MS66 and one MS67.

Heritage Commentary: A total of 3.4 million Barber dimes were struck in San Francisco in 1912 -- a fraction of the total number in Philadelphia and Denver. The 1912-S is proportionately scarcer than its P- and D-mint counterparts.

Provenance: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2008), lot 8144; purchased from David Lawrence Rare Coins (12/2009).(Registry values: N1793)
