Description

1892 Micro O Half Dollar, AG3
FS-501, Key Variety in the Barber Series

1892-O 50C Micro O, FS-501, AG3 PCGS. In circulated grades, the 1892-O is one of the major key dates among regular issue Barber half dollars. Yet, it seems common relative to the rarity of the Micro O variety, created when the die engraver incorrectly used a mintmark punch intended for a quarter. This example displays distinct stars, but the peripheral legends on the reverse are largely effaced. Liberty's jawline, ear, and wreath show some interior detail, but the letters in LIBERTY are worn flat. Small scattered marks are fewer and less severe than expected for a coin in this grade.
