Description

1892-O Micro O Half Dollar, AU55
Seldom Seen in Any Grade

1892-O 50C Micro O, FS-501, AU55 PCGS. Deep purplish-charcoal patina shows some silvery areas remaining on the high points and traces of amber-gold near the peripheries. There is little sign of contact, although the light wear on the high points of the devices is consistent with the Choice AU grade. This variety has been known for many decades and is pursued even more fervently than ever since the advent of numerous Registry Sets including this variety in their compositions. According to our records, it has been six years since an example in this grade appeared at public auction: Lot 3237 in Stack's January 2010 auction brought $20,700. Population: 2 in 55, 11 finer (11/15).
