Description

1892-O Barber Half, Good 6
Rare Micro O Variety

1892-O 50C Micro O, FS-501, Good 6 NGC. There is little middle ground for the rare Micro O Barber halves. With only a few exceptions, it is found in either well-worn condition or in higher grades. The high-grade pieces were preserved early on, since collectors were aware of the variety almost upon issue (thanks to Augustus Heaton's Mint Marks book, published in 1893). Those that escaped the clutches of well-connected collectors slipped by unnoticed by the general public, often until worn smooth. This example is a tad better than that, assigned the Good 6 grade by NGC. Light silver-gray surfaces show glimpses of almond-gold at the borders. The reverse rims merge with the Legend, but all of the motifs are present and the diagnostic quarter-sized mintmark is sharp.
