Description

Rare Micro O 1892-O Half Dollar
Good 6, FS-501

1892-O 50C Micro O Good 6 PCGS. FS-501. In circulated grades, the 1892-O is the key regular issue of the Barber half series, but it is common relative to the rare Micro O variety. The die engraver incorrectly used a mintmark punch intended for a quarter. The mistake is more easily understood when one realizes that 1892 was the first year of New Orleans half dollar production since 1861. This example has distinct stars and bold peripheral legends. All letters in E PLURIBUS UNUM are at least partly present. The obverse is a bit bright when compared with the deeper dove-gray reverse.(Registry values: P8)
