Description

1894 Barber Half, Radiant MS67
Deep Patina Interspersed Overall

1894 50C MS67 PCGS. CAC. Like most issues in the Barber coinage series, the 1894 half dollar was a commercial workhorse. Due to the Barber design's inability to excite collectors, this issue, like most of its counterparts, was not widely saved for numismatic purposes. The few collectors who did acquire an example, typically chose its proof counterpart, of which 972 examples were sold. This Superb Gem 1894 half is a genuine condition rarity. In fact, any example of this issue grading finer than MS64 is rare. The present coin, however, has the added distinction of being among the three finest examples certified, which include also an MS67+ PCGS coin and an MS67 NGC coin (9/15).

This piece is deeply toned in hues of deep blue and lavender, the depth of color partially subduing the underlying mint luster. The strike is sharp throughout. This stunning Superb Gem would make a perfect addition to a high-grade Barber half Registry Set.
