Description

1894-S Half Dollar, Reflective MS66
Few Known So Fine, Ex: Friend

1894-S 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Friend. Despite a mintage exceeding 4 million coins, the 1894-S Barber half is a major condition rarity and underappreciated in Gem or finer grades. Including possible resubmissions, PCGS reports only 10 pieces in MS65, four in MS66, and single MS67 coin as the finest; the NGC Census lists even fewer high-grade examples, including three Gems and a single MS67 coin finer, with none residing in the intermediate grade of MS66 (9/15).

In that light, the present Premium Gem is recognized as a rare offering. Both sides are semiprooflike with modest field-motif contrast. The strike produces exquisite details on the obverse, while the reverse reveals just a touch of softness on the arrow fletchings. Both sides display a base of light champagne toning over silver surfaces, serving as a backdrop for lovely gold, blue, and iridescent overtones.
