Description
Spectacular 1895-O Half Dollar, MS67
1895-O 50C MS67 PCGS. CAC. As a rule, the New Orleans half dollars in the Dale Friend Collection are much sharper than usual for halves from that Mint. Typically, the hair, leaf, and band details on the obverse are indistinct, while wing details just right of the shield are flat, as are the details of the arrow feathers.Dale Friend's 1895-O half is clearly sharper than the typical New Orleans piece, with excellent details in nearly all of those locations, and elsewhere. The only indication of a New Orleans Mint strike is at the arrow feathers and claw above LL. The central devices are frosty with satiny fields. Both sides have considerable ivory luster, gradually changing to gold, russet, lilac, and blue nearer the borders. The surfaces are pristine and the whole is a lovely presentation. Population: 2 in 67, 0 finer (10/08).
Ex: Park Avenue Numismatics.
