Description

1896-O Barber Half, MS65
Elusive Series-Key

1896-O 50C MS65 NGC. The 1896-O Barber half dollar claims a smallish mintage of 924,000 pieces and many numismatists consider it the most challenging issue of the series in high grade. Few examples were saved by contemporary collectors, making the 1896-O scarce, even in collectible circulated condition. The 1896-O is a prime condition rarity at the MS65 grade level, and finer coins are virtually unobtainable. This delightful Gem exhibits razor-sharp definition on most design elements, with just a touch of the usual softness on the eagle's claw and arrow fletching. The virtually flawless surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster, with brilliant centers and vivid highlights of sea-green and magenta toning at the rims. Eye appeal is terrific. Census: 5 in 65, 2 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N7079)
