Description

1898 Half Dollar, MS66+
The Dale Friend Duplicate

1898 50C MS66+ PCGS. CAC. Ex: Shireman/Friend. This was Dale Friend's duplicate piece that he sold to Dr. Shireman when he upgraded to the sole finest MS67 PCGS example that appeared in our 2009 sale of the Friend Collection. There is nothing wrong with an example that is tied for the second finest PCGS has certified. This stunning Premium Gem has satiny silver luster beneath rich gray-gold and iridescent toning with virtually flawless surfaces and a bold strike that imparted full design definition. The collector who seeks Gem or finer PCGS certified Barber half dollars will find this issue quite challenging, with only 29 submissions certified in the MS65 to MS67 grade range. Population: 12 in 66 (4 in 66+), 1 finer (11/15).
Ex: Dale Friend.
