Challenging 1898-O Half Dollar, MS64
1898-O 50C MS64 PCGS. The 1898-O Barber half is a rare and elusive issue in Mint State. This pleasing near-Gem example offers partially prooflike fields that establish modest contrast with the devices, slightly more so on the reverse. A better-than-average strike leaves sharp definition on the design features, save for minor softness on the upper right shield corner and arrow feathers and adjacent claw. Small marks on Liberty's neck and cheek preclude Gem status. Population: 21 in 64, 8 finer (4/09).(Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24M4, PCGS# 6481, GSID# 6590)
