Description
1899-O Half Dollar, Sharp MS66
Tied for Finest Certified, Ex: Friend
1899-O 50C MS66 PCGS. Ex: Friend. The mintage of 1.7 million
1899-O half dollars was sufficient to ensure that enough Mint State
pieces have survived for any collector to acquire one, but only as
long as high grade is unimportant. True Gem examples are elusive,
with less than two dozen certified submissions grading MS65 or
finer. If a bold O-Mint strike is a further requirement, then
top-grade examples of this issue are every bit as rare as any other
date in the series. This Premium Gem is the total package, with exceptional satin luster, brilliant silver surfaces, and a tinge of champagne toning. The strike is wonderful, with only the slightest weakness on the hair behind Liberty's eye, and at the junction of the wing and right shield. Population: 8 in 66, 0 finer (9/15).
