Description

1900-O Half Dollar, MS65
Elusive in High Grade

1900-O 50C MS65 PCGS. Despite a mintage of more than 2.7 million coins, the 1900-O Barber half dollar saw limited survival in Mint State. Any such coin is scarce, and Gems are genuine rarities. This New Orleans issue is known for its weak strike and often insipid luster. The present coin is typical in the first sense but above-average in the second -- the fields are especially lustrous and softly shimmer when rotated beneath a light. The strike is weak, most noticeably on the eagle's body and the right side of the shield. The interiors show light champagne toning, while the peripheries have deeper amber-gold and ocean-blue color. A small, shallow planchet void is discernible on Liberty's cheek, as struck. Population: 6 in 65, 4 finer (2/16).(Registry values: N7079)
