Impressive Gem 1901-O Half

1901-O 50C MS65 NGC. David Lawrence writes in his Complete Guide to Barber Halves that the 1901-O is "Scarce above VG. Edwards regarded this as the second toughest date in the series in Gem fully struck condition." In addition, Kevin Flynn, in his The Authoritative Reference on Barber Half Dollars, says of the 1909: " The O-mint halves are very scarce in circulated grades and difficult in mint state."
Sparkling luster adorns both sides of this lovely Gem, and satiny surfaces are devoid of significant marks. Except for some softness in a couple of the star centers and on Liberty's lips, the obverse elements are well-defined, a welcome change from this issue's typical mushiness.
