Description
Elusive 1901-O Half Dollar, MS66
1901-O 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. Of all the different Barber half dollar issues, the 1901-O has the second lowest Mint State population of any, behind the 1896-O. PCGS has only certified 26 submissions in all grades from MS60. It is also tied for the second lowest Gem population, as just six of those 26 submissions grade MS65 or higher. Ask specialists about the most difficult Barber half dollars, and the 1901-O will certainly be mentioned. Ask non-specialists, and this issue might be mentioned one time out of 20, if even that often.Ivory surfaces exhibit frosty luster with gorgeous peripheral iridescence. The surfaces are outstanding and the aesthetic appeal is most desirable. Faint strike doubling is evident on the reverse. As usual, the junction of the right shield border and wing shows weakness, but all other details are bold. Population: 2 in 66, 1 finer (10/08).
