Description

1901-O Half Dollar, MS66
Condition Census Registry Coin

1901-O 50C MS66 PCGS. The 1901-O is elusive in all Mint State grades. Most such pieces reside in the MS62 to MS64 range, and Gems are rare. This Premium Gem, however, is a contender for a Registry Set. PCGS has seen only three submissions in this grade, with a single Superb Gem finer. Similarly, NGC reports only two MS66 coins with none finer (9/20). This piece is fully within the Condition Census of 1901-O Barber halves.

Luster is satiny and unabraded, yielding iridescent peripheral toning around champagne interiors. New Orleans coinage of this period is typically softly struck, and this piece shows weakness on the eagle's right (facing) shoulder. However, eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 3 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer (8/20).
