Description

1904 Half Dollar, MS67
Exceptional Rich Patina
Tied for the Finest Certified

1904 50C MS67 NGC. The 1904 is among the more available Barber half issues. However, it is approximately 30 times rarer in Mint State than the 1904 Morgan dollar, which confirms the challenges faced by Barber collectors seeking high-grade coins. Most Uncirculated 1904 halves grade between MS61 and MS64. Smooth and lustrous pieces with a bold strike and dramatic original patina are great rarities.

The aquamarine obverse center of this extraordinary coin is framed with peripheral peach-red. The reverse is principally orange-gold and ruby-red but the margin is apple-green. The piece is lustrous and precisely struck with exceptional preservation. This is the sole finest 1904 Barber half at NGC, and the only comparable PCGS coin is the Duckor MS67+ (9/17), which last appeared at auction in our October 2012 ANA sale where it realized $47,000. This piece is visually and technically its virtual equal.(Registry values: N7079)
