Description

Select 1904-S Barber Half
The Mint State Series Key

1904-S 50C MS63 NGC. Little-saved at the time of release, the 1904-S half dollar stands out from most of its peers even in the lowest grades, but no issue is rarer and more costly in the lower reaches of Mint State -- this despite a mintage appreciably over half a million pieces. Though not perfectly struck, this Select example has only minor softness on the right (facing) claw, and the swirling luster offers all-around excellence. Faintly gold-tinged at the margins with a handful of horizontal slide marks on Liberty's cheek contributing to the grade. Census: 3 in 63, 7 finer (3/12).
