Rare Condition Census Example

1905 50C MS67 PCGS. Most Uncirculated 1905 Barber half dollars known are in MS62 through MS64. The populations thins out in MS65, and MS66 coins are rare. Only a handful of Superb Gem pieces survive, and these represent the Condition Census of the issue. At PCGS, five coins rank at the Superb Gem level, including three MS67s, one MS67+, and one MS68+; NGC lists no coins this fine (11/24).

This Condition Census piece boasts luminous satin luster shining through deep olive-green, amber, gold, and russet-lavender toning, with no bothersome abrasions. Minor strike weakness on the right-side border stars and on the eagle's right (facing) should is typical of the date. Population: 4 in 67 (1 in 67+), 1 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N7079)
