Description

1905-O Half Dollar, MS67
A Condition Census Example
Ex: Gardner

1905-O 50C MS67 NGC. This New Orleans issue claims the second-lowest production total from the Louisiana facility after the 1892-O (505,000 versus 390,000 coins). Examples are extremely rare in this lofty grade, and this Superb Gem is in elite company where comparably graded pieces are concerned. In fact, only the Eliasberg and Duckor/Akers examples, and another MS68 NGC coin are reported finer. This Superb Gem ranks high in the Condition Census, likely tied for fourth place. Lime-green and ice-blue borders merge with beautiful violet-gray centers on each side, while the reverse adds accents of peach-orange and russet toning. The strike is typical for the Southern branch mint, showing softness at the juncture of the right shield corner and wing, the leg feathers, and claws. Radiant luster and pristine surfaces heighten the appeal of this important Superb Gem offering. Census: 2 in 67, 1 finer (2/16).
