Description

Difficult 1906 Barber Half, MS65

1906 50C MS65 PCGS. CAC. Philadelphia coined 2.6 million Barber half dollars in 1906, and in this case the mintage actually provides an indication of availability today. Despite availability, the patience required to acquire Gem business strikes of the Philadelphia issues is generally known only to specialists. Decades ago, collectors chose the far easier route of collecting proofs for these issues, explaining the rarity of business strikes today. Both sides of Dale Friend's sharply struck 1906 half exhibit frosty silver luster beneath moderate toning. The obverse is predominately golden-brown, while the reverse is orange-gold and champagne. Population: 21 in 65, 5 finer (10/08).
