Description

1910-S Barber Half Dollar, MS67+
Ex: Friend, Ideal Registry Set Coin

1910-S 50C MS67+ PCGS. CAC. Ex: Friend. Although a pair of MS68 coins are reported by the grading services, this magnificent Superb Gem is nonetheless one of the finest 1910-S Barber half dollars we have ever handled. Moreover, we imagine this coin's incredible aesthetic appeal is comparable to that of the MS68 coins. In lower grades, the 1910-S is still rarer than most of the later S-Mint Barber half dollars, although it is more plentiful than most of the earlier San Francisco issues.

The Friend coin appears to be finer than the Pryor and Price coins, and perhaps similar to the Eliasberg piece in overall quality. It is highly lustrous with a brilliant central obverse design motif that is framed by pastel russet, lilac, and blue near the borders. The reverse is mostly brilliant with faint peripheral iridescence. All of the design elements are boldly detailed, except as usual, the top right of the shield and the adjacent wing, although even those details are sharper than often seen. Population: 4 in 67 (2 in 67+), 1 finer. CAC: 4 in 67, 0 finer (9/21).
