Description
1911-S Barber Half Dollar, MS66
Virtually Impossible to Upgrade
1911-S 50C MS66 PCGS Secure. CAC. Ex: Shireman / Emery /
Nichols. David Lawrence writes of the 1911-S in his Complete
Guide to Barber Halves: "Available in lower circulated grades,
but surprisingly tough AU55 through MS. Much scarcer than the
1911-D in these grades." To be sure, the issue is extremely rare in
MS66 and virtually unobtainable any finer. Warm, light gold color
graces radiantly lustrous surfaces, and the design features are
well-struck. Carefully preserved throughout. An inoffensive small
mark on the cap beneath star 6 is mentioned solely for pedigree
purposes. This piece displays great aesthetic and technical
quality. Population: 6 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer (11/15).Ex: Emery-Nichols Collection (Bowers and Merena, 11/1984), lot number unavailable; Dallas Signature (Heritage, 11/2006), lot 420; Harry Laibstain (1/3/2007).
