Description

1912-S Barber Half Dollar, MS66
Tied for Finest at PCGS

1912-S 50C MS66 PCGS. This delicately preserved example is virtually untoned, showing a slight golden cast on each side. The strike is boldly executed, despite a touch of softness on the right (facing) shield corner and the right claw, but much better than usually seen on this issue. The cartwheel luster is robust and ebullient, and there are no mentionable impairments.

Population Data (4/15): This MS66 example is tied with seven others at PCGS and five at NGC, which also shows two MS67 finer.

Heritage Commentary: The typical Mint State example of the 1912-S Barber half, if there is a "typical" representative, grades only MS64 or lower. The Gem threshold is breached by select few pieces, and Premium Gem examples are decidedly rare and in high demand.

Provenance: Denver Signature (Heritage, 8/2006), lot 3450; purchased from Bill Nagle (2/2007).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24NJ, PCGS# 6526, Greysheet# 6621)
