Description
1912-S Half Dollar, MS67
One of the Two Finest Certified
1912-S 50C MS67 NGC. This coin and the Eliasberg piece both
show faint raised die finish lines through the bases of the OLL in
DOLLAR. These lines are less prominent on this particular coin, but
then the fields are not as obviously reflective as are those of the
Eliasberg piece either, indicating that piece is a slightly later
strike but still from the same die pair that produced the Eliasberg
coin. From a technical and aesthetic viewpoint, this piece is
superior to the Eliasberg coin as that piece graded "only" MS66
PCGS. The brilliant surfaces of this example, certified MS67, give
the viewer an unrestricted view of the flashy, semiprooflike fields
and equally bright, satiny devices. Fully struck on the obverse,
there is only the slightest softness evident on the reverse in the
usual places: the eagle's right (facing) talons and shoulder. NGC
shows one other example in MS67, while the finest at PCGS are eight
MS66 coins (6/15).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2005), lot 4263.
