Condition Census 1913 Half Dollar, MS66 PCGS

1913 50C MS66 PCGS. Beginning in 1913 and continuing through the end of the series in 1915, the Philadelphia Mint's yearly production of Barber Half Dollars failed to reach 200,000 coins. The 1913 boasts the highest mintage in this group, but still only 188,000 business strikes and 627 proofs were struck. Widely hoarded in later years, this P-mint issue is actually quite common at the Good and VG levels of preservation. Higher graded circulated survivors are elusive, and Mint State survivors are scarce or rare depending on their proximity to the Gem threshold. The eight MS66 representatives reported at NGC and PCGS are unsurpassable in grade (9/04), and each qualifies for Condition Census standing. Full, frosty mint luster swirls around both sides of this deeply, but attractively toned example. There is not a single mentionable distraction, and the toning presents as steel-gray mixed with antique-gold that is somewhat lighter on the reverse. The otherwise sharp strike wanes ever so slightly over the eagle's right (facing) shoulder. A coin that is earmarked for inclusion in the finest collection of Barber coinage.
