Description

1913-D Barber Half, Phenomenal MS66
Tied for Finest at PCGS

1913-D 50C MS66 PCGS Secure. Ex: Duckor/Akers. The Denver Mint coined 534,000 half dollars in 1913, the seventh-lowest mintage in the entire Barber series. Overshadowed by the lower-mintage 1913 and the higher-mintage 1913-S, this Denver issue is an undeserved "poor stepchild" of the date. Even so, connoisseurs of the series know to give this issue great respect in high grades.

The sharp strike and full mint brilliance provide this coin with a high degree of aesthetic desirability. The surfaces exhibit faint silver-gray toning and a few freckles of deeper iridescence. Slight weakness visits the upper right shield junction, a characteristic that is unavoidable even on the highest-graded coins of the issue. PCGS has yet to grade a finer example, emphasizing the importance of the present opportunity. This beautiful Premium Gem is destined for a remarkable date or type collection. Population: 6 in 66, 0 finer (6/15).
