Description

1898-S Half Dollar, MS64
Few Coins Saved in High Grades

1898-S 50C MS64 PCGS. Most of the 2.3 million Barber half dollars struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1898 were put into circulation. Perhaps a roll or two were saved, but there were few collectors interested in mintmarked coins at that time. Strike definition is excellent on the obverse. The right shield-wing juncture and talon are incomplete. Well-preserved, softly frosted surfaces are draped in golden patina. Population: 13 in 64, 16 finer (10/22).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24M5, PCGS# 6482, Greysheet# 6591)

Weight: 12.50 grams
