    Description

    1904-S Half Dollar, Satiny MS64
    Challenging Issue in Mint State

1904-S 50C MS64 PCGS. Barber coinage circulated extensively and failed to catch the interest of contemporary collectors. High-mintage dates became conditionally rare, and low-mintage issues became elusive in all Mint State grades. The 1904-S boasts a modest mintage of 553,038 coins, making it scarce in Uncirculated condition. Examples grading finer than MS64 are rare. This piece displays satiny mint luster and is devoid of bothersome abrasions. Light golden toning warms each side, and flecks of ocean-blue also appear along the lower obverse border. Typical of the issue, this coin exhibits moderate strike softness on the reverse, on the right shield corner and the eagle's right (facing) leg and talons. Population: 34 in 64 (5 in 64+), 11 finer (1/20).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24MP, PCGS# 6500)

    Weight: 12.50 grams

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
