    Description

    1892-O Quarter, MS67
    Tied for Finest at PCGS

1892-O 25C MS67 PCGS. CAC. Type One Reverse. This magnificent Superb Gem is boldly struck, showing frosty, radiant luster shining through a veil of warm champagne toning that deepens to olive-gold and amber in the peripheral recesses. A couple of interior die cuds are present, one on the upper-left edge of Liberty's cap and the other at the lower-right corner of the neck truncation.

Population Data (9/15): This Superb Gem is tied with two others as the finest at PCGS; NGC accounts for one other in this grade plus a single MS68 example (also ex: Gardner). Two in MS67 have the CAC green approval.

Heritage Commentary: The 1892-O Barber quarter is somewhat scarcer in Mint State than its Philadelphia counterpart, partly due to a substantially lower mintage of less than 2.5 million pieces. The issue is rare in Gem or finer condition, and Superb Gems such as the present example are essential for a high-ranking Registry Set.

    Provenance: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/1999), lot 6936; Santa Clara Signature (Heritage, 11/1999), lot 6503.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 23XU, PCGS# 5602)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
