    Description

    1894-S Quarter, Concentrically Toned MS67
    Fully Struck With Impeccable Quality

1894-S 25C MS67 PCGS. CAC. Amber-gold and rose-lavender centers are bounded by electric and pastel blue hues on each side of this Superb Gem, whose surfaces boast not only laudable luster, but a strike that is full throughout both sides. Extraordinary preservation and impeccable quality meet here.

Population Data (4/15): Only two Superb Gems appear at both services combined -- this piece and one other at PCGS. Both have the CAC green approval sticker.

Heritage Commentary: In light of the economic hardships that settled in during the mid-1890s, as well as gradually declining collector interest in the less-than-awe-inspiring Barber Liberty Head design, most of the more than 2.8 million quarters struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1894 were dispersed into circulation. Mint State survivors are usually available in Choice and lower grades, but Gems are rare, and anything finer is exceedingly so. As one of the two finest known, the currently offered Superb Gem stands above virtually all other examples of the issue in terms of both aesthetic and technical merit.

    Provenance: Purchased from Pinnacle Rarities (1/2008).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 23Y3, PCGS# 5609)

    Weight: 6.25 grams

    Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
