Superb Gem 1895-O Toned Barber Quarter

1895-O 25C MS67 NGC. A gorgeous and deeply toned example of this date. The surfaces are stunning, with deep blue and gray dominating, mixed with splashes of lighter burgundy and russet. Close and careful examination will find a few scattered ticks and nicks, including a couple on Liberty's face, just below and behind her eye. On the reverse there is a minor complex scuff between the left wing and the branch in the narrow field. Fully struck by the dies, with sharp stars and curls on the obverse, and similarly bold on the reverse with the wing and shield complete, and the only softness resides on the uppermost details of the right claw and arrow feathers. Radiant luster peeks through from beneath the toning, and this coin is a technical close match to the Superb Eliasberg coin we sold a year ago in the Hugon Collection at the FUN show. In terms of rarity, this present coin is tied with an illustrious group of 5 pieces which have earned the Superb MS67 grade from NGC or PCGS, with a single coin seen finer of this date.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 23Y5, PCGS# 5611)
