    Description

Colorfully Toned 1895-S/S Barber Quarter, Scarce MS 64 Preservation

1895-S/S 25C MS 64 NGC. Repunched Mintmark. Writing in 1994, David Lawrence noted that the repunched mintmark variety is at least one rarity ranking higher in all grades than the other die marriages of this delivery. The repunching is readily evident under a loupe. As an issue, the 1895-S is seldom offered in problem-free Mint State preservation. In addition to smooth, sharply defined features, this near-Gem displays gorgeous, original toning. Electric-blue, crimson-orange, and silver-gray colors are noted on both sides, with the latter shade dominant on the reverse. The consignor believes that this coin is the finest known example known of the 1895-S/S variety.
    From the Glenn J. Church Collection. (NGC ID# 23Y6, PCGS# 5612)
