Key-Date 1896-S Quarter, AU55
Choice Coin For a Barber Quarter Set
1896-S 25C AU55 PCGS. Obverse Die #1, with 1 in date almost
perfectly centered over denticle and 8 centered over left edge of
denticle. Horizontal striations are visible in the ear (a clash
from the shield detail on the reverse die). Reverse Die #1, with
mintmark centered between R and D.This Choice AU key-date representative possesses considerable luster and just an occasional hint of light gold color on otherwise untoned surfaces. The design elements are sharply and uniformly struck, and close inspection reveals just a few minute marks from brief circulation. It is very unusual to find the 1896-S in this level of preservation. This will make a wonderful addition to a mid- to high-grade Barber quarter set. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 5 in 55, 35 finer (12/12).(Registry values: N2998)
