Description
Choice Brilliant Uncirculated 1896-S Quarter
1896-S 25C MS64 NGC. Along with the 1901-S and the 1913-S, the 1896-S is one of the three key dates to the Barber Quarter series. Survivors are coveted even in basal circulated condition, and a pleasing near-Gem is worthy of the finest specialized holding. This is an impressive example, since the surfaces are fully brilliant and the strike is razor-sharp, even on the fletchings and shield corners. The cartwheel luster is satiny and complete, and the fields are surprisingly close to pristine. The portrait is beautifully preserved, but a couple of tiny ticks on the jaw and neck merits mention only as pedigree markers. Expect a strong bid to be requisite for the next owner of this notable example. Population: 10 in 64, 7 finer (3/05).(#5615) (Registry values: N4719)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 23Y9, PCGS# 5615, Greysheet# 5422)
