Description

Impressive Near-Gem 1896-S Quarter

1896-S 25C MS64 PCGS. While it has a greater mintage than either the 1901-S or 1913-S Barber quarter issues, the 1896-S was not saved at the time of release and so it is especially challenging in Mint State grades, nearly on-par with the much lower-mintage 1913-S. While this near-Gem is pleasingly preserved, that preservation is only the start of its eye appeal. Both sides are boldly impressed with vibrant luster that filters through rich multicolored patina. Gold, orange, pink, and forest-green shadings are most prominent. Conditionally rare so fine. Population: 13 in 64, 10 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N4719)
