Description

1896-S Quarter, VF30
Seldom-Seen Mid-Grade Example

1896-S 25C VF30 PCGS. Often considered to be in "third place" amongst the three key issues in the Barber quarter series, the 1896-S is actually slightly scarcer overall than the 1913-S, despite more than four times the mintage, and thus seems proportionately underrated, if one were to give it considerable thought. Low-grade examples in the AG to VG range are encountered with some frequency, but the date becomes highly elusive in the Fine to Very Fine grades, and XF or finer representatives are decidedly scarce. This deep gunmetal-gray coin exhibits substantial detail for the grade and problem-free surfaces. The admirer of original patina will find much to like about this pleasing mid-grade representative.(Registry values: N1793)
