Description
1897-S 25C MS 63 PCGS. With an original mintage of slightly more than 500,000 pieces, this S-mint Barber quarter is difficult to locate in any level of preservation. The present Mint State specimen must be considered quite scarce and should command significant attention from serious bidders. Nicely impressed and free of the striking softness that often plagues branch mint Barber coinage, this piece carries swirling mint luster. Milky-gold and hazy-champagne toning adheres to both sides and deepens markedly to charcoal-blue patination about the lower obverse periphery. Although the balance of the surfaces are problem-free, Liberty's cheek and neck carry several parallel abrasions that rule out a near-gem designation.
