1898-S Quarter, Bold MS66
Ex: Eliasberg
1898-S 25C MS66 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. Although the 1898-S
issue does not stand out as a significant date in itself, this
particular coin is a treasure. In their sale of the famous Louis E.
Eliasberg, Sr. Collection, Bowers and Merena described this coin,
whose history can be traced directly to the San Francisco Mint, as
exhibiting "mottled light gray and lilac toning over satiny
surfaces." The devices are impeccably defined throughout and only a
tiny reeding mark is noted below Liberty's chin. Census: 2 in 66, 2
finer (6/14).Purchased by J.M. Clapp directly from the San Francisco Mint, November 1998; John H. Clapp. Clapp estate, 1942, to Louis E. Eliasberg Sr. (Registry values: N4719)
