    Description

Colorful, Target Toned 1900-O Barber Quarter in MS 66

1900-O 25C MS 66 NGC. Type One Obverse, Type Two Reverse. The 1900-O is similar in high grade rarity to the 1900-S, a fact that is not obvious to one who merely compares the mintage figures of these two issues. The O-mint delivery has a mintage of 3.4 million pieces, but the S-mint issue was produced to the extent of only 1.8 million coins. We feel that far fewer 1900-O quarters were saved than their S-mint counterparts, and the present example is certainly one of the finest extant representatives of the former issue. The obverse displays splendid target toning that originates in emerald-green color near the border and passes through steel-blue and tan shades before yielding to brilliance in the center. The reverse also displays a bull's eye toning scheme, but the border colors include more vivid shades of crimson and orange. With uncommonly sharp striking detail and pristine surfaces, this coin is at the upper reaches of the MS 66 grade level. NGC and PCGS combined report eight coins in MS 66 with a mere two finer (7/00).
