Description

1901-S Quarter, Well-Defined, Original Good 6
Key to a Barber Quarter Collection

1901-S 25C Good 6 PCGS. Lower-grade specimens of this key-date issue that possess relatively strong design detail and original surfaces are encountered very infrequently. The present Good 6 offering is an example of such a coin. The obverse portrait displays a well-defined jaw line and ear; the eye, mouth, and wreath also show a modicum of detail. The rim is complete (with the exception, of course, of the dentilation). The reverse rim is a bit less strong, but is completely separated from all peripheral letters. This is significant, because many lower-grade pieces, including some VGs, show parts of the rim worn into the letters. The right and left shield borders show separation from the wings and the lower part of the eagle. Each side exhibits two shades of natural gray, with deeper hues in the fields highlighting the lighter devices. Only two marks are worthy of mention, one on the obverse rim above the S in TRUST and another between stars 8 and 9 that extends to the rim. These will aid in identifying the coin. The Barber quarter specialist will want to give this piece serious consideration as it will fit comfortably in a circulated collection.(Registry values: N2998)
