    1901-S Barber Quarter, VG10
    Rarest of the 'Big Three'

1901-S 25C VG10 PCGS. A classic key-date Barber quarter, the 1901-S is one of the "Big Three" in the series alongside the 1896-S and 1913-S quarters. Although a small number of Mint State examples survive, the typical 1901-S is well-worn, with little remaining detail. PCGS and NGC have combined to certify just over 1,000 submissions, with an average certified grade of just below 9. Only 129 of those submissions grade finer than the present piece, including just 91 finer examples at PCGS (10/14). This attractive pewter-gray example shows hints of magenta in the fields, and lighter silver-gray devices. An old scratch in the right obverse field is toned over, but the surfaces are generally exceptional for the grade, showing only trivial imperfections.(Registry values: N2998)
