    Description

Key 1901-S Barber Quarter, A Premium Quality MS63 Representative

1901-S 25C MS63 PCGS. The 1901-S is not the lowest mintage issue in the Barber Quarter series (that honor belongs to the 1913-S, with 40,000 pieces produced), but the original mintage of 72,664 pieces is certainly miniscule for a 20th century silver issue. Actually, the '01-S is rarer in Mint State than its later date counterpart, fewer examples having been preserved at the time of issue. Housed in a first generation PCGS holder, this is a premium quality coin for the grade. Soft, original, apricot-gray patina blankets both sides, through which modest semi-prooflike tendencies are visible in the fields. The striking softness that plagues many representatives of the Barber design is conspicuously absent on both sides of this desirable, key date example. A significant find for the Barber Quarter specialist, and a coin that is worthy of a strong bid. (NGC ID# 23YR, PCGS# 5630)
