    Description

Finest Known 1903-O Quarter, Ex: Eliasberg Collection

1903-O 25C MS67 PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg. The '03-O is an important date, especially in Gem (and higher grades). In his 1999 certified book David Lawrence ranked this issue as 12th in the series.
This splendid specimen was purchased directly from the New Orleans mint by J.M. Clapp in October, 1903. It made an intermediary stop with Louis Eliasberg in 1942, where it resided until being sold by Bowers and Merena in April, 1997. Over the years, the surfaces have gently patinated and now exhibit intermingled tones of light gold, orange, sea-green, and dove-gray. As would be expected of the grade (and pedigree), there are no mentionable distractions or spots on either side. One has to look closely with a loupe to disclose even the smallest abrasion, and only one is seen near the mid-point on Liberty's neck. This is only visible at certain angles and mentioned to further assist one, if needed, for future identification purposes of this extraordinary coin. Currently (11/04), this is the single finest known example thus far graded by either service. A very special opportunity for the Barber specialist.
Ex: J.M. Clapp directly from the New Orleans Mint, (10/1903); Louis Eliasberg (1942); Louis Eliasberg Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 4/97), lot 1580.(#5635) (Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 23YW, PCGS# 5635)

    Weight: 6.25 grams
