    Description

    1906-O Quarter, MS67
    Tied for Finest at PCGS

1906-O 25C MS67 PCGS. CAC. A lovely coin, the central obverse is mostly untoned with olive and orange-gold peripheral shadings. More uniform in appearance, the reverse is awash in champagne-gray patina with blushes of powder-blue in select areas at the denticles. The nearly complete strike is noteworthy for this often poorly produced issue, and the radiant surfaces are essentially abrasion-free.

Population Data (9/15): The finest at PCGS are seven in MS67 (one MS67+). NGC reports four grading events in MS67 (one MS67 ★ ) with a single MS68 finer. This is among four in MS67 with the green CAC approval.

Heritage Commentary: The 1906-O is not the rarest O-mint Barber quarter in Mint State; David Lawrence (1994) suggests there may have been a small hoard. However, Superb Gems are rare, and specialists should consider the sole MS68 tightly held and likely out of reach.

Consignor Commentary: Technically close to perfect with good eye appeal. The strike is strong, and the surfaces are line- and mark-free. Vibrant luster combines with attractive, delicate toning throughout. Not a rare date and easily obtained even in Gem. Still, I would venture to say that this has to be a Condition Census piece.

    Provenance: ANA National Money Signature (Heritage, 3/2003), lot 5731.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 23Z7, PCGS# 5644)
